                           The Warbirds

The 45th Tactical Fighter Wing has been training at RAF Stonewood
for months. The last operational regular Air Force wing to fly
F-4s, the 45th has been trained for Middle East Operations,
giving the President still another option in that volatile
part of the world. Arab leaders would feel less threatened
by a wing of F-4s vs. a wing of F-15s. The time has come to put
that training to use...

BACKGROUND
The Iranian Communist Party, the Tudeh, are moving to gain
control of that country and have requested help from their
Marxist brothers. We're monitoring a massive movement of
Farsi-speaking Shiite Muslims from Turkmen and Afghanistan
into Iran. They're calling themselves the People's Soldiers of
Islam, the PSI for short. If the PSI columns reach Basra, they
have enough strength to sweep into the oilfields of Iraq, Kuwait
and the Arabian Peninsula.

ORDERS
You are ordered to assist the UAC, United Arab Command, in
their defense of Basra. The 45th FROG order follows:

  1. Destroy the supply depot at Al Mansurah.
  2. Destroy the supply depot at Cairo West.
  3. Destroy the supply depot at Latakia.
  4. Destroy the supply depot at Hamah.

The 45th will deploy to Ras Assanya and immediately begin
combat operations. The PSI is likely to attempt to neutralize
Ras Assanya (Tel Aviv). Expect heavy air attacks and perhaps an
amphibious assault. Command and replenishment ships should be primary
targets of any amphibious assault group. In addition, you are
to keep losses to a minimum. The President could come under
severe political pressure should casualties be too high. After
completing your mission, you are to stage the wing back to
RAF Stonewood (Marseilles). Force Attachments include a flight
of F-4 Wild Weasels (A-6's) for SAM suppression, and a GCI
Radar team (E-2 Hawkeye's). Good luck, Colonel!

AUTHOR'S NOTES
This scenario is loosely based on a book by Richard Herman Jr.,
The Warbirds. I have had to make some adjustments due to the
Harpoon gaming system and the MEDC battleset. First, this
scenario should take place in the Persian Gulf, as you can
probably tell by the description of combatants. I have used
Tel Aviv to represent Ras Assanya, and Marseilles to represent
RAF Stonewood. The four targets in the FROG order represent
PSI supply depots, fuel depots, supply convoys, and command
and control elements. Finally, I've used A-6 EW aircraft
to represent the Wild Weasels, and Hawkeye's to represent the
ground GCI radar. This scenario id designed to be played
from the BLUE side only. Enjoy!
