SENARIO: GIUK-01, NATO Counter-attack in Norway
          Created by Scott Witte HARPBBS#163

Background

Soviet ground forces advancing through Norway have been stopped by NATO
ground forces south of the city of Bodo, Norway. A NATO counter attack
is to commence in four (4) days.

Significant Soviet tactical air forces stationed at Bodo, Norway are a
great threat to NATO ground forces. Several long range bombing raids
have damaged this air base and reduced its air strength. However heavy
reconstruction efforts at this base have prevented its long term
elimination.

Blue Orders

You are to provide escort for a Marine amphibious group. Their
objective is to land troops to capture and hold this airbase until
relieved by counter attacking ground forces.

Intelligence Brief

Intelligence estimates that Soviet naval forces have been reduced in this
area. Soviet surface forces have been detected sailing north to their
bases to re-arm and refuel. Soviet submarines have recently surged south
and should be out of the area and only a minimal threat. Successful
submarine and long-range bomber cruise missile attacks have reduced Soviet
bomber capacity in the region.

Addition: Satellite photos indicate a large number of Soviet tactical
aircraft arriving at Bodo to replaces losses.

NATO: Air support will be provided by units of the Royal Air Force and
elements of a US National Guard Attack Squadron. ASW capability will be
supplied by Royal Navy air units. AEW is in short supply in this region.
You will have only limited access to E-3s in the North Atlantic.

Addition: You must protect your E-3 at all costs. Use this aircraft with
great care. Additional E-3 aircraft are unavailable at this time. The
E-3 is based at Keflavik, Iceland.

Victory Conditions

You must arrive at Bodo, Norway and land your troops (min 6 hrs) within
four days. At least two (2) amphibious vessels will be required to have
any effect; however, at least four (4) vessels will be required to give the Marines a good chance of victory.

Game Notes

Designing scenarios can be a complex task. The computer needs extra help
in order to be competitive. With this in mind, this scenario was designed
to allow the human player to play NATO (BLUE) while the computer will play
the Soviets (RED). If you play the Soviet side, you will find the scenario
to be trivial.
