SPOILER: WW3: 01.1 TattleTale II

Postby MarkShot » Sun Jul 10, 2016 10:00 am

The only thing worse than losing is winning without explanation.

Plan: (see image)

(1) SSN to sprint deep and form first layer of intel and defense.

(2) SS to travel at PD and form second layer of intel and defense.

(3) DDG to back them up.

Now, the SSNs sailed right under the battle.

The SSs said right into it. It surprising to pass through a CVG and not even know.

But it was clear something was going one, since there was a humongous air battle going on over head.

Here is a YouTube video from when it got interesting.

In short, I won, but I have not a clue why. Other than maybe I was lucky running into the CVG and feeding position information back to the Soviet TF. I don't believe I actually hit anything!

Well, I will definitely try again. Probably just sweep on the surface. When I first make contact, launch long range missiles, then dive under come out the back and fire wake homers.

Yeh, it make not work, BUT IT IS A PLAN!

I think you hit the nail on the head. Your role as 'eyes and ears' was more important than you strike capability. Obviously, the aircraft carrier (CV) was sufficiently damaged by the Blinder strike (which you did not control.)

Well, this one I will play again.

If my intel is more important than my fight, then I probably shouldn't fight as shooting tends to draw attention.

On other hand the taking out the carrier would be a great honor for the Soviet submarine service. I have missiles, but more stealthy would be to go under the screen and strike from the stern with wake homers.

However, getting under a screen is hard in this game in full reality.

If I was in AOD, SHCE, SC, or DW ... I am conning the sub. Thus I have the sensor input I need to try squeeze under the screen and come up in the formation.

I used to love coming up in convoys in AOD with 6 tubes (4 in the bow and two 2 astern). If done right, you could time it and take out three tankers while you crash dive to begin your evasion. Truly a thing of beauty.

PS: I regret the end of game AAR is such a drag to capture. You should be able to dump it like a text file just like the briefing.

This is very true. You would pretty much need to assume command of a single sub and leave the others to an ineffective AI. :(

Again, the awkwardness is true. However, since it can easily be solved by a few Screen Capture commands, it is certainly a bearable limitation, IMHO. So many egregious bugs have been introduced into ANW because someone wanted a minor feature addition or superficial bug fix that I totally stopped suggesting new stuff to the AGSI developers, because they would simply bungle it and add 3-4 big bugs.

With many H3 functions, just be thankful that the damn thing works. AGSI attempts to fix/improve it would only break it (and other stuff) even worse.

I just created 7 recon ship missions for my subs. They all promptly went out of comms. Perhaps, that was not the brightest thing. I am hoping they surface to report in their contacts. FAT CHANCE!
