Yes, that's my old mug. You can get the more complete sordid film history at the IMBD.com site (Internet Movie Data Base)! Best, Alan

Re: Posting 05 Mauritius Command

Postby aotino » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:01 pm

I thought to post on the two Matrix sites, the Gamesquad and Harplonk. I didn't realize I posted on all those other sites for the previous releases. Should I use the same format as the previous post announcements and just substitute the name and number of the new scenario for the old ones?

I just re-use the old messages as a template for new releases since they have all the necessary links for download. I started the threads on all those sites. You can join them and post your own releases, ask me to do it on your behalf, or just ignore the sites that you do not wish to have an announcement posted.

Okay, then I'll take the last release format from 04, and sustitute with the text describing 05 and all other info and release the announcement to the same sites. May get to it this weekend, or more likely in a couple of weeks after I get back from some time off with the family. Thanks Herman! Alan

05 The Mauritius Command

The island of Mauritius has been graciously "lent" by the French to British forces as a fall-back position from the Indochine assault on the UK bases up north in the Seychelles. An all-out retreat is now underway as Allied forces make their way south for the island of Mauritius.

It is here, in concert with US forces re-trenched in the Comoros Islands, that Allied Forces will hold their ground and start a war of attrition in the Indian Ocean - to take back what they once possessed, and to bring the war home to the Indian Indochines. This is the hill to defend, or die on.

This is the fifth scenario written for ANW and HUE using the customized CasoDB. The scenario and database are bundled within the PlayersDB installation file due to its phenomenal popularity and ease of use.

Hey Herman,
Still testing 06 - have run into some problems with it so am in a small redesign to make it play better. Hey, I have someting that may or may not help fellow designers. In my off time I've developed a spreadsheet on Excel that I use to help me design. It allows me instant access to units and their loadouts, speeds, and other capabilities without having to go thru the laborious process of pull down menus and scrolling thru lists in those small game windows to find what I'm looking for in the game. I keep it open in a window side by side to the game itself, and if I need to find a ship, sub, or air unit I simply go to a fuller screen page that lists the units alphabetically or by country to find what I need in a bigger glance. There is also a page of weapons listed, as well as pages for radar units, SSM sites and SAM sites. Thought you might be interested. If so, let me know and I can attach it here, or send it to you in an email for your perusal first. Best, Alan :D

It sounds like an interesting tool for those who may not own MicroSoft Access or have access to the Reimer Database Editor program. Personally, I just use the DB editor to locate information I might need during a game.

You can post it here, but I would suggest that you add some detail on how to use it. For example, is it only for use with the CasoDB or can it be used for other databases? If it can be used for other databases, how can it be used? How do you import the different details for different databases?

Other sites also support Harpoon tools, in case you wish to post the Excel document to them:

I think I enquired into the Reimer Database Editor program a while back and I can't remember why I don't have it. It sounds like it is a more useful tool because it can adapt to any of the databases. This is a simple Excel program that I loaded up with all the units in the Caso dB. It really can work with the Player's dB because the only difference between that and my dB is that a number of the surface units have more capable loadouts for air platforms as you may remember. As to individual platform weapons loadouts or new units, there are no changes. Otherwise if someone knows how to use Excel, then they can use this. Just a thought. I'll put it out there and see if anyone finds it useful. Best, Alan

Re: CasoDB AMMENDED - New Database and scenarios

Hey Harpooners, I have a second amendment to my Caso dB, to include changes to Mine-Clearing Equipment and loadouts. Please be ready to delete the previous Database files and download the upcoming dB. Also coming up is a 6th scenario called The Canal! Thanks, Alan

aotino wrote:Hey fellow Harpooners,
I have a new custom Db ready to put out there for the purposes of playing a campaign I'm designing that will contain several new scenarios. Subject matter is a contemporary world (2007-2009); events leading to it from the early nineties have taken a different turn than that as we know it. The world is at war with lines drawn across a variety of fronts from the South Pacific, North Pacific, Asia, Indian Ocean, Mid East and South America. If you're interested in a plausible "what if" challenge, check into it. I'll try to get the scenarios out there soon and keep them coming, but would appreciate any play testing and feedback.
(SPECIAL NOTE: THE CasoDB HAS BEEN AMENDED TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL CREDITS. PLEASE DELETE THE PREVIOUS Database File, AND DOWNLOAD THE CURRENT ATTACHMENT.) :D 8)

It is not necessary to delete anything when using the PlayersDB installation program. The installation file automatically replaces/overwrites the previous files with newer editions.

The CasoDB version number has been revised to reflect the 12.10.14 changes. All six scenario files have been re-synchronized to the new database version and been added to the Library installation files. The new libraries are ready will be posted to the server as soon as the new scenario and database announcements are made.

Thanks Herman. Should I post the announcement on all the usual sites that I've announced scenario releases before, but include the announcement of the revised dB?
